Feature: Jose Guapo Speaks on Controversial "Osama Bin Guapo" Cover Art (@HEARTBREAKjazz)

Today I had the opportunity to sit down with Jose Guapo at Quality Control Music and discuss the controversial Osama Bin Guapo mixtape cover. Some have described the cover art as tasteless as it shows Guapo with a Turban & gold chains aside planes and what appears to be the Twin Towers with “Universal” & “Def Jam” printed on the buildings.

To understand the cover art, you would have to already be a fan of Guapo. The hit single “Fuck The Rap Game” (Produced By Metro Boomin) revamped Guapo’s music career. The single touches on his feeling towards the music industry and how major record labels aren’t telling him what he wants to hear. The mixtape (releasing December 24th) is the 13 track sequel to Guapo’s rebel against the major music labels. Absolutely no references to terrorism.

In actuality the cover depicts Guapo as “the most wanted man in the world” aside the major labels knocking at his door. Guapo holds much pride in being an independent artist. “Quality Over Quantity,” he said in reference to his Quality Control Music team and their much impressive artist roster including the Migos, OG Maco, Rich The Kid, Johnny Cinco, & Skippa Da Flippa.
As we wrapped up our meeting, Guapo sends his condolences to anyone that took offense to the cover art and everyone that lost loved ones due to the tragic events of 9/11.
