5 Ways To Be Productive This Summer

Often times during the summer, we find ourselves being lazy and unproductive. The school year can be draining with the assignments, tests, and projects. Not to mention finals, but don't let your summer go to waste. Find ways to be productive and keep your brain flowing so you're prepared for the upcoming semester. Here are a few things for you to try out:

  • Get a part-time job - A great way to keep you off the couch this summer is by getting a part-time job or internship. Whether it's just putting some extra cash in your pocket or learning more about your major, working is a great way to keep you active and organized. Search for jobs on Craigslist or upload your resume to Monster. Also, open a savings account so you don't blow all of your cash.

  • Catch up on some reading - Visit your local library and check out a few books to read this summer. The library has great suggestions. Try a self help or learn a new skill with a how-to book. Places like Barnes and Noble offer a nice spot to read.

  • Summer school - Get a head start and enroll in summer school. Take on some classes in your major or sign up for something you'll never have the time to try, like art or graphic design. This is a great time to speak with professors about your future plans since the classes will be small and intimate.

  • Writing Exercises - Check out the book 642 Things to Write About and practice some of the exercises. You can also browse online for some cool writing ideas to keep you prepared for those upcoming papers and essays. Keep a journal, or start a blog on Blogger or Tumblr! A photo-journal is also a neat way to share your summer experiences.

  • Work out - One way to be productive is by staying fit. If you're local, visit your campus' fitness center or hit up the YMCA. They offer affordable student rates and classes. You can rent some work out videos at the library or watch them online.
