Isaiah Jeremiah's "Promises" is equal parts eerie and soothing. The Virginia lyricist trades in punchy bars for something softer and vulnerable, his better-than-average crooning on top of the spacey production - mixed by Jeremiah but master engineered by 6lack's main man Dale Becker - that enables him to adventure to sonic places that he's never attempted to go before. His ambient approach to music continues to separate him from his fellow Virginia artists, and, through constantly reinventing his sound and expanding his artistry, it looks like he'll be the force to beat within the industry.
